Smith’s Opera House

Project: Smith’s Opera House, Geneva, NY
Architect: Mossien Associates
Year: 1996
Type of Job: Restoration
Product: Columns with both tooled (ribbed) texture and split-face texture, arch replacement pieces, “Leaf” keystone, stone textured jamb blocks with tooled borders. (The scroll panels with the busts above our columns are terra cotta.)
Notes: For this restoration project, Steps Plus’ cast stone was used to simulate the red Medina sand stone that was originally on this historic theater but had been chiseled away when the building was clad in metal panels. The keystone model used to make our form was sculpted from scratch by professional sculptor Sharon BuMann based only on old photographs. BuMann also sculpted the column bases and assisted Steps Plus personnel with the intricate moldwork required for this challenging project.
